⬩ Volunteer Opportunities ⬩

Several times each month throughout the growing season, we host a morning of what we playfully refer to as “meeting, weeding and eating” when we invite community members to Stonewood Farm to help us maintain the Market Garden. This is the garden where we grow produce for our various outreach programs like the First Harvest Pantry at Lyall Church and Meals on Wheels.

The commitment requires approximately three hours of work in the garden, which is followed by a simple complimentary lunch with our entire farm staff in our Cookhouse as our way of saying thank you. It’s the perfect opportunity to exchange ideas about important current issues involving food access and to learn how we can better serve our community from members of the community.

During the time working in the garden, volunteers must be able to bend, crouch, and kneel on sometimes rocky, uneven surfaces. Volunteers should plan to have plenty of water, sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses, knee pads if available, work gloves, and snacks if needed. Appropriate clothing with closed-toed shoes is a necessity.

If you’re interested in lending a hand and meeting new neighbors, please give us your contact information and sign up for one or more of the following dates. In the message box, please indicate any dietary or other restrictions and we will try to accommodate you.

If you’ve signed up for a date and can’t make it, please email us at farmer@stonewoodny.org as soon as possible so someone else can fill your space. In case we need to postpone due to inclement weather, we will call you with a proposed rain date.

Our volunteer days are limited to 12 attendees. If you do not see your desired date/month here, we have reached full capacity for that day. We hope you will consider joining us for our next volunteer day(s) listed below.

Thank you for your support and interest! If you have any questions, please feel free to email farmer@stonewoodny.org
